We took a departure from our annual Labor Day trip destination this year and decided to stay closer to home. Our travels took us to Door County, WI and included visits to Potawatomi State Park and Rock Island State Park.
Our first few days were spent on the Door County peninsula, exploring the Green Bay and Sturgeon Bay area by kayak. On our third day, we ventured north to Rock Island, which can only be reached by taking two separate ferries, the first by car, the second, by foot.
Upon arriving on the island, we felt a total sense of remoteness. While the island was beautiful, we did not think we could have stayed more than a day. We had a quick walk around, and then we headed back to the Door County peninsula.
No dining highlights on this trip, as we did not partake in the traditional fish boil that is very popular in this region of the world. We did see some interesting cauldrons that are used as part of the cooking process. Perhaps next time!

Reno Trip
Another long weekend trip to the west coast, this time to Reno, NV to attend a friend's wedding.
Not much time to do any additional sightseeing on this trip as wedding activities consumed the majority of our weekend. We did enjoy a nice sunset cruise on Lake Tahoe for the rehearsal dinner.
